How is the pregnancy due date calculated?

Most obstetricians use Naegele's Rule: add 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). Our calculator adjusts that by your cycle length — if your cycle is longer than 28 days, ovulation happens later, so the due date shifts accordingly.

How accurate is a due date calculator?

When the LMP is known, the estimated due date is typically accurate within ±7 days. Only about 5% of babies are actually born on the calculated date. A first-trimester ultrasound (between 8 and 13 weeks) gives the most precise dating.

What if my cycle is irregular?

For irregular cycles, we add the difference between your cycle length and the standard 28 days. For example, with a 32-day cycle, we add 4 extra days. If your cycles are highly irregular, an early dating ultrasound at Vinayaka Hospital is the most reliable option.

Can I calculate my due date from the conception date?

Yes. If you know the conception date (often the ovulation day), the estimated due date is conception + 266 days. Choose 'Conception Date' in the calculator and we'll handle the math for you.

How do I find my pregnancy week?

Accepted Answer

Pregnancy week = (Today − LMP) ÷ 7. So if your LMP was 10 weeks ago, you're 10 weeks pregnant — even though conception happened around 8 weeks ago. This is the convention used by every obstetric guideline worldwide.

When does each trimester start and end?

First trimester: week 1 to 12. Second trimester: week 13 to 27. Third trimester: week 28 to 40. Babies born between 37 and 42 weeks are considered full-term.

Is a 9-month or 10-month pregnancy correct?

Pregnancy is roughly 9 calendar months, but obstetrically it's 40 weeks (or 10 lunar months of 28 days each). Both are correct — they just measure time differently.
